Developing the course "Improving the management capacity of small and medium restaurants in Vietnam"

The course "Improving the management capacity of small and medium-sized food service establishments in Vietnam" sponsored by USAID, have been implemented by Duke University (USA) in collaboration with Restaurant Association of Vietnam (RAV), National Economics University (NEU), and Vietnam Confederation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The course is expected to assist restaurants and food service businesses in becoming more competitive and sustainable in all business situations, especially when the world is facing more and more complex challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Owners of small and medium food service businesses and large restaurants with up to 30 employees are the course's key subjects. After registration and selection, the business owner would participate in an online training course taught by experts from Duke University and NEU with specific, useful information designed only for Vietnam's small and medium-sized restaurants.

To enable the broad involvement of all restaurant owners and managers across provinces and cities, the course is offered online, taking place once a week for 6 weeks. In addition to classroom lectures, the course includes lectures and an exchange of practical experiences of successful restaurant owners. Participants just need to commit to taking a 10-minute smartphone survey once a month for a year to evaluate training outcomes. After completing the whole program, students receive certificates from Duke University and NEU.

The course include:

Part 1: Restaurant management (including modules: Overview of restaurant management; Menu, Service management and Money management);

Part 2: Internal administration

Part 3: Code of Conduct

Part 4: Marketing in restaurant business
